猶太拉比如何讀《聖經》?

Magonet早年透露：「他會坐在咖啡室，枱面放著數頁希伯來文的影印本，方便畫上不同記號，一面神遊於經文之間，最後才去翻查註釋資料。」(‘there is nothing nicer than sitting in a café with a photocopy of a Hebrew text in front of me and sort of “doodling” with it – in fact that is a useful first stage before looking at what other commentators have made of it.’ A Rabbi Reads the Psalms 1994 p.7）。這份閒情逸致，正好融會貫通了上主聖言與生命歷練之間的有機互動，跟西方聖經批判學的「底本論」、「六經説」、「申典歷史」等囫圇呑棗，不可同日而語。
Magonet在另一篇講章「年輕耶利米」中，曾想像在《死海古卷》發現了先知成績單的「畢業評語」：「他是很有恩賜的青年人，帶著强烈召命感；假如找到合適機會發揮所長，一定非池中物。可惜囿於目前因循的政治環境下，我看他在耶路撒冷不可能有什麼前途。也許只有一種情況，才用得上他出眾的恩賜；但試想耶路撒冷甚至全國要遭遇這樣一場浩劫，我寧願懇切祈求他從來未曾蒙召宣講獨一真神的話語。」(‘He is a gifted young man with a strong sense of vocation, and if he can ever find the right niche for his obvious qualities he should be very successful. Unfortunately, given the current rather conservativepolitical climate, I can see little future for him in Jerusalem. I can imagine only one situation when his great gifts would be needed.
